In 2022, Rozanne McKenzie took a leap into the unknown. With no prior triathlon experience and minimal confidence on a bike, she signed up for her first Auto&General XTri. She chose the half-distance, a decision that would set the stage for an incredible transformation.
“I could barely ride a bike,” Roz recalls, “but I was determined to see it through.”
Fast forward to 2023, Roz returned for her second Auto&General XTri not just to repeat the half, but to take on the full distance. It was a bold challenge, but she embraced it with grit and determination.
Building Confidence, One Ride at a Time
The trails of Steyn City can be daunting, but for Roz, they became a proving ground. She committed herself to hours of practice, pushing past the discomfort of falls and the frustration of starting from scratch.
“From 2022 to 2023, I grew so much. I went from barely being able to ride to feeling confident on the trails. It was a huge personal victory.”
Lessons in Resilience
The Auto&General XTri isn’t just about physical endurance—it’s a mental game. Roz’s journey wasn’t without its challenges. Balancing family, work, and training often left her exhausted. There were days when she felt too tired to train or discouraged by setbacks. But she kept showing up, proving to herself that resilience is built in the small, daily choices.
“The XTri showed me that I can do hard things if I put my mind to it and do the work. It’s not easy, but it’s so worth it.”
A Moment of Triumph
Crossing the finish line—twice—stands out as one of Roz’s proudest achievements. The sense of accomplishment, the beauty of Steyn City, and the camaraderie of the XTri community made every challenge worthwhile.
