Since its inception in 2022, the Auto&General Cross Triathlon has grown tremendously. This year’s event also held added significance thanks to a collaboration with Triathlon SA, which marked the top performers from the day’s Cross Triathlon with the added honour of being SA Cross Triathlon Champs.

The event kicked off with a swim in the  Steyn City lagoon, followed by a bike ride along the estate’s custom designed mountain bike trails, and wrapped up with a scenic run, offering participants breathtaking views of Steyn City’s indigenous parkland.

“We’re extremely pleased with how the event has evolved over the years,” said Alex Terblanché, CEO of Auto&General Insurance. “This year, it was an honour to host the South African National Championship for Cross Triathlon in 2025, and to see athletes from all over the country competing for the coveted title of SA Cross Triathlon Champion.”

What sets the Auto&General Cross Triathlon apart is that athletes of all levels are able take part, offering options from the full individual challenge to team entries. Alongside the elite individual categories, the event also introduced team divisions, allowing participants to focus on their strengths by choosing to compete in either the swim, bike, or run leg.

“We’re proud to be part of this incredible event,” said Steven Louw, CEO of Steyn City Properties. “Steyn City offers the ideal environment for such a prestigious competition, with its exceptional amenities including the 300m lagoon, 50km MTB track, and 45km floodlit promenade. It’s amazing to see so many athletes embracing the challenge in such a beautiful and safe environment.”

The flexibility of the event’s format, which includes various distances, continues to appeal to both first-time triathletes and seasoned professionals. This year, entrants competed in multiple categories, including the Standard, Sprint, and Super Sprint distances, each with its own unique challenge.

“Once again, Auto&General is proud to support the Cross Triathlon,” concluded Terblanché. “Every year, this event gets bigger and better, and we look forward to seeing even more participants shine in 2026.”
